Saturday 22nd July saw the opening day of The Original Great Maze 2017 and we were off to a great start following two months of glorious Essex sunshine and rain, resulting with a fantastic, tall crop of maize reaching over two metres!

For the first time ever, this year’s maze was designed by a year 2 pupil from Great Eastern Primary School, following a competition for local school children to send in their maize maze designs. The winner was young Luke Tidball, who joined us on opening day with his Mum and younger sister to receive his prize, along with the school’s Assistant Headteacher, Holly Miles. Both were presented with their cheques and were amongst the first to walk the new tractor maze, which was made a reality by our own Maze Master, Peter John Carter.

The maze is set in 11 acres of farmland, with paths of over 3.5km and made from around 650,000 maize seeds! This year’s maze is dedicated to the late John Harvey of Blake House Farm, who sadly died earlier this year.

The latest maize maze adventure is open until 10th September and costs just £13 for a family of four to visit for the day! A lost souls escape map is available should visitors get lost and a viewing platform makes it easy to spot those still missing in the green labyrinth!
