2025 is the year for events at Blake House Craft Centre, which started with our annual Easter Fayre. June saw the launch of our monthly Farmers Markets around the centre, with the ‘Rare Rides Rally’ hot on the wheels with a fantastic range of classic and collectible cars and bikes.
Next up, is the thrilling Lawnmower Racing Championships and we can’t wait! The British Lawnmower Racing Association (BLMRA) are returning after a five year absence with the Essex heats here once again to race around the track. Running over the weekend of 12th & 13th July, this crazy event is one to come and watch and is open to spectators at just £2 per person. So bring your camping chair, camera and suncream and join us for a day of mud, mayhem and madness!
Who came up with the idea of Lawnmower Racing? Well like many great ideas, back in 1973 a bunch of mototsport mates were enjoying a drink together at a pub in West Sussex and were looking for a cheaper and more accessible form of motorsport. Someone was mowing outside, which gave the inspiration required and a new motorsport was born!
Over 50 years on and with the likes of Stirling Moss and Derek Bell among the names on the list of lawnmower racing champions, we are proud to be hosts of the Essex heats. The event is open from 10am – 4pm both days, with warm up laps to begin with and there are 4 categories of Lawnmowers all fighting for the title of the Essex Champion 2025!
How fast can a lawnmower go? Well there’s only one way to find out!
